Daily drink eases hypertensives’ heart risk -study
CHICAGO, March 22 (Reuters) - The protection against heart
disease from moderate drinking extends to men with high blood pressure, suggesting current advice for such patients to avoid alcohol is wrong, researchers said on Monday.
Long recognized as a stress reducer that cuts the risk of heart disease and strokes, wine and other forms of alcohol may have anti-clotting properties and boost blood levels of high-density lipoprotein, the so-called good cholesterol.
The study found that hypertensive men who drank moderately
• one or two drinks per day—had a 44 percent lower risk of dying from a heart attack than nondrinkers with high blood pressure.
Based on an ongoing survey of 14,126 male doctors, the Physicians’ Health Study, the five-year study concluded the overall risk of death was 28 percent lower among moderate drinkers with hypertension compared to hypertensive nondrinkers.
The benefit was also seen among light drinkers of one to six drinks a week, but the more alcohol consumed—as long as it remained moderate—the lower the risk of dying.

In a hurry

While driving down to my kid's school, i noticed one thing... Every one is in a hurry, all those fellow drivers at the red light are looking so impatient, i wonder how much agony they must be going thru and that too for no reason...
This made me think ( yes occasionaly i do think) everyone seems to be impatient. They all need more in less time. More money in less time. More is the key word. In this mad run behind bigger, better and more we are forgetting to rest.
Hence i have taken one important decision today. I am going to rest.
So long.
see you after my siesta

how free is free trade

Was reading about the recent row over textiles between China and the rest. What does these EU, US guys think? They talk about free trade, reforms, open up etc... and they restrict their market. They knew about the opening up of textile market long back and they were behind many countries to get their markets opened up. Now when the competition began they are running scared for cover behind various excuses....
The above comment doesnt mean I support free trade, I am against it... I think free trade will soon die. Every nation will have its own reason to protect local economy... See in textiles if EU bans chinese stuff, businesses will get their stuff from Vietnam or Malaysia or Thailand, as its cheaper there. So the idea behind the ban - to help local market - will not work. So they will have to ban everyone or put barriers for entry. That means death of free trade.
This will be the same in most of the industries. Nations can trade only in things they can't produce enough locally.
If the birth rate is going the way it is soon Europe will have a tough time to find work force. So either they will have to allow more immigration from third world or out source. How much will a state out source? that means more open immigration policy. But the way world is moving to the right many people won't be pushing for that... So then what happens....
And more over Asian countries are fast picking up...
I am no economist, but its an intresting scenario to think of....

more mixes

I ve been experimenting with more mixes. One I liked the most is Vodka and Dew. Its got something to it. Plus I like the colour - a deep shade of yellow more like a golden drink. Slightly sweet but not very.
Been trying out a few combinations with Gin but didnt like any. will try a few more in the coming week as I got half a bottle more to finish. Meanwhile I still love my Dark Rum and water. Nothing to beat it.

whisky with green tea

Just read an article about Whisky getting popular in china...
"Visit any trendy bar or karaoke club in Beijing, and chances are you will see a group of 30-somethings, men and women, gathered around a bottle of Scotch.
The ever-more hectic nightlife of China's big cities accounts for huge leaps in sales, according to Geoffrey Kau, a manager at Riche Monde (China) Ltd, which distributes the Johnnie Walker brand in the mainland.
"People mix it with green tea, and they can easily finish a bottle within an hour," he said, sitting next to three cases of freshly-imported Black Label."

That sounds cool I am going to try it out this weekend. Very healthy combination.

Three cheers

Just returned from Dubai. It was an exciting trip... Lots of booze, travelling...
Last day was a mix of Tequila, Wine, Vodka and god knows what.

Tday I read an interesting item about some brave men in England.
Here it is...
British drinkers save their local 15th century pub
LONDON, Feb 16 (AFP) - Regulars at a 15th century British pub said Wednesday they had bought their drinking hole to save it from being converted into houses.
A group of 21 customers raised 425,000 pounds (617,000 euros, 800,000 dollars) to buy the Swan Inn pub in Cheshire, northwest England, after landlord Ian Edmondson announced he planned to turn it into residential property.
"We were upset when we heard he wanted to close the pub because it is a viable business and we didn't want to lose our local," said Matthew Barnes, who helped to organise the purchase in the village of Kettleshulme.
"It is only a small village and the pub is the key feature where people can come together to chat and exchange stories," Barnes said.
The pub was closed last October but the locals' offer was accepted earlier this year and it is due to re-open in March.

Great going guys....

Plus we need to login every now and then. and if you are using hotmail, forget it with 2MB space, its tough!! This is ultra cool.

Interesting

I checked out the bloggies award site and read an article on them. I was stunned to learn about the number of blogs out there and amount of content in them. People actually like writing about themselves and many like reading about others... Is this a kind of voyeurism.
Okay not all blogs are like that.. many are dumb like mine with no apparent reason to exist then there some damn good ones with lot of information and good stuff to read.
So i again decided to do some thing worthwhile with this blog.
to start with here is an interesting search engine www.vivisimo.com will come with more in next

Its raining!!!!!!

hu hu
its raining cats and dogs here in the middle of a dessert. Last year in Qatar it rained for a few days, but it was more like someone spitting from top...
But for the last two days, cool nice rain with all its paraphernalia - lightning, clogged roads, minor accidents, nice breeze - is lashing Qatar.
The time is right for a drink, but poor me is sitting at office, sipping sulaimani on an empty stomach. On top of it, its Eid holiday for all.... :-(
I just realised - its really difficult to update a blog on a regular basis. Only way out is post interesting news items or other such happening things. My thoughts are limited. So churning out words on a regular basis is very tough. But anyway i will try my level best. the best thing is no one knows about this blog. I have not given anyone this link. Its a top secret...
a beta version of my blog... he he
